LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 2022) — To learn about election day, Lawrence Pre-K students listened to the story Election Day by Margaret McNamara. After the reading, students took turns voting anonymously for their favorite pet using a ballot form. Students created and filled out their own voter registration cards. After voting, students received their I Voted! sticker to keep and share with their families.
“This was a creative way to discuss and connect Election Day with our youngest learners and present it in a way they would understand,” said Patricia Almonaitis, Lawrence Pre-Kindergarten Director. “Our students were able to understand that voting is a fair way for people to make decisions. It also provided an opportunity to speak to our students about sharing their beliefs and how to respectfully disagree.”
