Matthew Sharin is a Finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program

LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY, 2023) —As the school year slowly starts to come to an end, high school seniors are looking forward to starting a new chapter in their lives with the possibility of attending college. Attending college comes with extensive costs which is why applying for scholarships are important. Recently, Lawrence High School’s own, Matthew Sharin, was announced as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

“We are proud that Matthew Sharin was chosen as a finalist because it highlights his achievements,” said Dr. Jennifer Lagnado-Papp, Principal of Lawrence High School. “Matthew is a great example of hard work and dedication. Great job and good luck!”

The National Merit Scholarship Program requires students to take the PSAT/NMSQT. Final scores, along with other requirements, are used to determine which students advance. With up to 1.5 million entrants, only a group of more than 15,000 are selected as finalists, like Matthew. In the end, only 7,250 of the finalists will be chosen to win the National Merit Scholarship award of $2,500. The award will be used to fund the winner’s chosen college or university.
