LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (MARCH 2024)—Young scholars at Lawrence Pre-Kindergarten School recently embraced the joys of reading during Read Across America Week, immersing themselves in a captivating world of literature. The students delved into the works of renowned authors and brought their beloved characters to life through creative activities.

Throughout the week, eager learners explored the diverse narratives of various authors, gaining valuable insights into storytelling and imagination. One of the highlights included a day dedicated to Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, where students arrived at school in their coziest pajamas, mirroring the cozy setting of the beloved book. In another delightful tribute to literature, the students celebrated the whimsical world of The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. Decked out in an array of colorful and quirky hats, the young readers added a touch of whimsy to their attire, channeling the mischievous spirit of the iconic feline character.

The week-long celebration only fostered a love for reading and encouraged creativity and imagination among the budding scholars. Through interactive and engaging activities, the students were able to connect with the characters and stories that have captured the hearts of readers for generations.

Lawrence Pre-Kindergarten Director Patricia Almonaitis commended the students for their enthusiasm and participation, emphasizing the importance of literacy and the impact of storytelling on young minds. "Read Across America Week is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore the magic of books and ignite their passion for reading,” she said. “We are proud of their dedication and creativity throughout this celebration.”

As the week ended, the Lawrence Pre-Kindergarten community reflected on the joyous moments shared and the valuable lessons learned through the power of storytelling. The students' enthusiasm and spirit exemplified the true essence of Read Across America, inspiring a love for reading that will continue to flourish in the years to come
