LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (OCTOBER 2022)— Lawrence Middle School students came to school dressed in their professional attire for Professional Wednesday. This day focused on educating students about the importance of first impressions and preparing them for their future careers in the world beyond school.
“Great job to all the students who came to school looking professional and sharp on Professional Wednesday,” said Willis Perry, Principal of Lawrence Middle School. “Professional Wednesday allows students to see themselves in the respective field they would like to work in the future. We want our students to have all the social skills to thrive in a professional environment and learn the importance of first impressions and how far it can take them.”
In addition to the regular social studies curriculum, Lawrence Middle School social studies teachers choose a different topic each month to highlight with their students. October was all about first impressions and how using positive body language such as making eye contact and a smile is a non-verbal form of communication. Students also had the opportunity to talk about being authentic, dressing appropriately depending on the occasion, doing research, and coming prepared for their job interviews.
