LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (MARCH 2026)—Students from Lawrence High School achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the DECA State Career Conference held in Rochester, New York, earning statewide recognition and advancing to international competition.
Lawrence High School students Poonam Bansi, Arbi Corbita, and Krish Gomes placed 2nd overall in the Hospitality & Tourism Operations category, competing against top DECA students from across New York State. Their achievement was made even more impressive by receiving a perfect score on the presentation portion of their project, an exceptional accomplishment that reflects both their preparation and presentation skills.
With this remarkable finish, the team has qualified to compete at the DECA International Career Conference, which will take place in Atlanta, Georgia in late April. At the international level, they will join thousands of top-performing students from around the world to showcase their business, marketing, and entrepreneurship skills. “This achievement reflects the dedication, creativity, and professionalism these students demonstrated throughout the competition process,” said Dr. Jennifer Lagnado-Papp, Lawrence High School Principal. “Their success is also a testament to the many teachers, mentors, and community members who have supported them along the way.”
The Lawrence High School community is encouraged to congratulate Poonam, Arbi, and Krish as they proudly carry their “DECA Glass” around the building, a tradition celebrating students who have earned recognition at the state level. Lawrence High School congratulates these outstanding students and wishes them continued success as they prepare to represent their school and community at the international level in Atlanta.
