The Lawrence School District Celebrates P.S. I Love You Day

LAWRENCE, NY (FEBRUARY 2023)—With the month of February revolving around love,
Lawrence Middle School participated in P.S. I Love You Day with the intention of raising
awareness about mental health while spreading kindness throughout the school. On the second
Friday of February, students and staff were encouraged to wear purple to highlight P.S. I Love
You Day. Throughout the day, students participated in activities that promoted being
compassionate toward others.
“One of the character traits we strive to instill and reinforce in our students is that of kindness –
kindness to oneself and to others,” said Willis Perry, Principal of Lawrence Middle School. “P.S.
I Love You Day offers both our students and staff an opportunity to reflect on the importance of
kindness and the ways we can show kindness to others. The day also gives us another
opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues.” In discussing the day’s activities,
Principal Perry also made a special note to thank Ms. King, one of the school’s English
teachers, and her service-learning club for their help in organizing this day.
To start off P.S. I Love You Day, students at Lawrence Middle School were shown a special
informational video about the I Love You Day foundation and its efforts. There were discussions
and a writing activity where students wrote kindness grams to their friends and loved ones. To
top things off, a kindness quilt was created out of post-it notes filled with words of
encouragement and hope that were put on display in the school’s main hallway.
