Principal's Message

It is my absolute pleasure to serve as the principal of this fine, fine school.  The Number Five School family prides itself on its dedication and commitment to provide your children with a rigorous academic program coupled with the social and emotional support that will enable them to achieve at their highest potential.  Our instructional program provides many opportunities for your children to thrive.  Our teachers are lifelong learners who work diligently to meet the diverse needs of our students in a positive risk free environment.  Ongoing professional development and collaborative communication among school personnel fosters academic and social gains.

Number Five School has been a cornerstone of the Village of Cedarhurst for 81 years.  We are extremely fortunate to have an active and committed PTA that provides us with wonderful programs and activities for our students: our Annual Fall Festival, Holiday Boutique, Book Fair, Carnival and Cultural Arts Programs to name a few. They support each of our building endeavors and play a critical role in the overall success of our school and community: participating in building-wide and district wide committees.   Our goal is 100% participation from the staff and families of our school.  If you have not already done so, I encourage you to join this worthwhile organization.  Your involvement within this partnership will have a positive effect on your child’s overall success in school.

Literacy is our trademark and we are proud of the many activities that encourage a strong home/school partnership.  Our annual Picnic in the Park, Literacy Night, Swap a Book, Math Day, Gazebo Concert in the Park, Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Winter and Spring Concerts and ESL Parents as Partners Program are just a few of the traditions we have established that provide learning opportunities for our students and families. We are fortunate to have an extensive music and art program, a challenging physical education program, and a Library/Media Center that enable our students to develop 21st- century literacy and technology skills. We strive to instill a love of learning that will continue throughout the lives of our students.

The staff and I hope that as you “travel” through this site, you enjoy the many projects and activities that your children have been an integral part of.  We welcome you to visit often and share the enthusiasm that your children bring to their learning.

I look forward to a successful year for all!
