BOND Mission Statement
BOND is an acronym for Branching Out in New Directions. It was established to help the serious student earn school credits for graduation while at the same time participate in various extra curricula activities. BOND is successful in maintaining a rigid academic setting geared for Regents level work.
The Program establishes a safe and secure setting conducive to learning about the individual and those around him/her. While academic success is the main thrust of the program, and the ultimate goal, community service, group work, and active participation in BOND events are requirements that must be fulfilled to remain in the program.
Our smaller class sizes and dedicated teachers allow the individual to grow academically and personally. A typical BOND student is one who is motivated, dedicated, hardworking and determined to succeed. For many, it is the last stop, not a resting place.
Membership in BOND gives every student a chance to succeed. This success is contingent upon the willingness of the individual to learn and grow.
Philosophy
The BOND program is a school within a school alternative education program that operates periods 2 through 6 daily in room 125, the Bond suite.
The programs main objectives are:
1. To improve the academic success of the students, both in BOND and in mainstream classes, through a non-traditional classroom setting, with traditional values such as attendance, testing, projects, Regents exams, school rules, procedures, and requirements.
2. To instill in each student a sense of pride, a more positive self- image, hope for the future and a sense of both civic and social values.
3. To provide an environment in which students can acquire a variety of skills outside of the classroom through the participation of decision making situations that affect the BOND program, valuable group trips community service, guest lecturers, and whole group work.
BOND Requirements
Academics:
- Students must take a minimum of three classes in BOND.
- The BOND staff expects that all classes will be passed. Any students failing classes at the first interim will be placed on probation. Any student failing two or more courses at the end of the first quarter will be asked to leave BOND. This procedure will be repeated for the second quarter. At the end of the year, if any student either fails or receives an NC for two or more classes, he/she will be returned to the mainstream in September.
Attendance:
- During the school Year, if a student misses more than seven days of BOND classes due to SAC or home suspension (AA), he/she will be returned to the mainstream classes.
- Because BOND requires a real commitment, any student who is absent more than twelve days by the end of the second quarter will be mainstreamed.
Drug Use:
- Any student who comes to BOND under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be asked to leave the program. Any student found with drug paraphernalia (papers, clips, pipes, etc.) will be removed from BOND.
Community Service:
- Every student will be required to participate in at least one community service project.
