HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM

THE CURTAIN RISES

The High School Music Department offers a wide variety of musical and artistic experiences for all students.  In addition to a complete program of performing ensembles (Band, Chorus, and Orchestra), there are classes in a variety of areas that focus on the development of the aesthetic appreciation of the students such as: Television Production, Dance, Performing Arts, Guitar, and Music Theory.  Students may also elect to participate in the courses held in the state-of-the-art Television Production Studio.  The Theater Program offers students the opportunity to perform in the Buskins Theater Ensemble Production, Cabaret performance, and the popular Broadway Showcase musical production each year.

CHORAL MUSIC PROGRAM

At the High School, there are three elective choruses: the Mixed Chorus, the Concert Choir, and the Show Choir.  For each group, students are selected by the Choral Director.  All ensembles meet during the school day in a regularly scheduled class.  Finally, the District Chorus is an ensemble of selected students from grades 5 to 12 that perform with the Lawrence Philharmonic Orchestra.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Band and Orchestra meet during the school day in a regularly scheduled class.  All woodwind, brass, and percussion players will be scheduled into Band, and all string players will be scheduled into Orchestra.  Selected students will have the opportunity to perform in Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Winds & Percussion, Broadway Showcase Orchestra, and the Lawrence Philharmonic.
