Curriculum Maps
Greetings from the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction
This website is designed to give you direct access to the Federal Government’s policies under “No Child Left Behind”, the New York State Education Department’s informational website and links to the Lawrence Public School District’s instructional program. We offer this resource in the hope that you will become familiar with the mandates and requirements that drive instruction in our district. Our staff has worked diligently to organize and publish curriculum and topical maps for your information. As you will notice, we offer a rich and well-articulated curriculum.
Curriculum maps are used as planning devices for our teachers. While the scope of any given curriculum map is universal, the sequence is discretionary. Teachers determine when topics are presented, based on local and world events, student needs and prior knowledge. Since prior knowledge plays a vital role in developing deep meaning, we ask that you use the maps as a guide when planning family activities, outings and vacations. We recognize the importance of the home-school connection and cherish that partnership.
It is my sincere hope that you use this website. I am always available to address concerns and answer questions. You may call my office at 295-7095.
Vicki I. Karant, Ed.D.
