Community Profile

The Lawrence Public Schools serves a community in western Long Island, just east of New York City and is one of the more acclaimed and recognized school districts in the region. Serving the villages of Atlantic Beach, Cedarhurst, Inwood, Lawrence, sections of North Woodmere and Woodmere, known as the "Five Towns", the Lawrence School District is located in the southwest corner of Nassau County. Its southern shores fringe the Atlantic Ocean with world renowned white, sandy beaches. Easy access to New York City and its wealth of educational and entertainment resources, houses of worship for all denominations, a wide range of philanthropic and nonprofit agencies, leading health care facilities, a variety of fashionable boutiques and palate-tempting restaurants - all contribute to making the five Towns an exceptional living and working environment.

A thriving community of nearly 43,000 residents brings a sound social, ethnic, and cultural mix to the Five Towns, promoting a deeper understanding of, and respect for, our pluralistic society. Citizens of the Five Towns take an active interest in school affairs, consistently demonstrating their support of superior educational programs.

School Profile

Meeting the needs of today's changing society, Lawrence Public Schools has established a prominent Early Childhood Center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. Four neighborhood elementary schools housing grades one through five, provide ongoing enrichment activities within a comprehensive primary program.

Lawrence Middle School, housing grades six through eight, bridges a path towards excellence, meeting the academic and social needs of its students. The Middle School was found to build sound values, character and self-worth while fostering an effective relationship with parents and the community.

Lawrence High School, a four-year school for grades nine through twelve, has been featured locally and nationally for its academic programs and achievement. Statistical data reveals that the academic achievement of Lawrence Public Schools students is higher than comparable students in the county, state and nation. Nearly ninety percent of Lawrence High School graduates go on to further their education, with acceptance to Ivy League schools, the top state and city universities as well as colleges across the country.
