2008 Course Catalog
The social studies allow students to explore the world and its triumphant moments, failures and ongoing challenges. Through this discipline, you will be afforded the opportunity to glance over your shoulder to see where you came from, understand where you are now, and perhaps catch a glimpse of where you might be headed.
Although social studies is a required course of study for all students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, most students take advantage of the opportunity to enroll in one or more of the exciting electives that the department offers.
Students are required to pass both a New York State Regents examination in Global History and Geography 1 & 2 and United States History and Government to qualify for graduation with a Regents diploma. Students who entered high school in September of 1997 (or before) and do not desire a Regents diploma will be required to pass Regents Competency tests in both subjects.
