The Board of Education consists of seven members elected by community residents. Members of the Board receive no pay and serve three-year terms which overlap. Regular meetings are held as scheduled in the calendar. Building principals, local media and the PTAs are notified of exceptions to this general procedure. Residents of the Lawrence School District are encouraged to attend meetings.

NOTICE OF BUDGET VOTE AND ANNUAL DISTRICT ELECTION OF LAWRENCE UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT (NO. 15), TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD, COUNTY OF NASSAU, STATE OF NEW YORK
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, there will be a vote and election by the qualified voters of the Lawrence Union Free School District No. 15, Town of Hempstead, County of Nassau, on May 21, 2013, between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. at the school election districts indicated below, at which business will be transacted as required by law, including a vote on the following propositions as well as any other propositions, which may properly come before the electorate:
Proposition No. 1 - School Budget- To adopt the annual budget of the Lawrence Union Free School District for the fiscal year 2013-2014 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the school district.
Proposition No. 2 - School District Library Budget- To adopt the annual budget of the Peninsula Public Library for the fiscal year 2013-2014 and that said amount be raised by tax upon the taxable property of the Lawrence Union Free School District, pursuant to § 259 of the Education Law, and be levied and collected in the same manner as are other general taxes, after first deducting the monies available from State aid and other sources.
Board of Education Trustees- To elect three (3) members of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term commencing July 1, 2013, and ending on June 30, 2016.
Peninsula Public Library Trustee- To elect one (1) trustee of the Peninsula Public Library for a five (5) year term commencing July 1, 2013, and ending on June 30, 2018.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the election shall be held in accordance with the Annual Meeting and Election Policy and Candidate and Campaigning Policy adopted by the Board of Education.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the condensed form of the budget proposition and the text of all other propositions to appear on the voting machine and a detailed statement of the proposed budget, in writing, of the amount of money which will be required for the school year 2013-2014 for school purposes, specifying the purposes and the amount for each, will be prepared and copies thereof will be made available upon request, to any resident in the District at each schoolhouse in the District, during the period of fourteen days immediately preceding the annual meeting of May 21, 2013 (excluding Saturday, Sunday and holidays) between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on the district website Lawrence.org and at polling location sites on the day of the election.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the accurate description of the boundaries of the election districts is available for inspection by any qualified voter together with a map of the District in the Office of the District Clerk at Lawrence Middle School, 195 Broadway, Lawrence, New York, during regular business hours. The four (4) sites designated for voting in each election district are as follows: #2 School, 1 Donahue Avenue, Inwood, Lawrence Middle School, 195 Broadway, Lawrence, Lawrence High School, 2 Reilly Road, Cedarhurst and the Atlantic Beach Village Hall.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that registration of voters shall take place at the office of the District Clerk located at, 195 Broadway, Lawrence, New York, on school days between September 4, 2012 and May 8, 2013, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., during which times any person shall be entitled to have his/her name placed upon such register provided that he/she is known, or proven to the satisfaction of the District Clerk to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the annual District election for which such register is prepared.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the registration of voters not previously registered and eligible to vote will take place between 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. on May 8, 2013 at the Office of the District Clerk. Such persons must present himself or herself personally for registration during the time and place set forth, in order to be entitled to vote.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the final date to register for the 2013-2014 budget vote and election is Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. in the office of the District Clerk, at which time any person shall be entitled to have his/her name placed upon such register, provided that he/she is known, or proven to the satisfaction of the District Clerk, to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the annual District election for which such register is prepared.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the register shall include (1) all qualified voters of the District who shall personally present themselves for registration; and (2) all previously qualified voters of the District who shall have been previously registered for any annual or special District meeting or election and who shall have voted at any annual or special District meeting or election held or conducted at any time within the four calendar years (2009-2013) prior to preparation of the said register; and (3) voters permanently registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that, the register shall be filed in the office of the District Clerk where it shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on each of the five days prior to the day set for the election, except Sunday.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that applications for absentee ballots may be obtained at the Office of the District Clerk and are also available on the district website- Lawrence.org. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk in the District Clerk’s office by May 14, 2013 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter. If the ballot is to be hand delivered, it must be received by the District Clerk in the District Clerk’s office by 5:00 P.M. on the day of the election, May 21, 2013. If the ballot is to be hand delivered, the application must be received by the District Clerk in the District Clerk's office the day before the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in the Office of the District Clerk on each of the five days prior to the day of the election except Sunday.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that this Board shall convene a special meeting on May 21, 2013 at 10:30 P.M. for the purpose of declaring the result of the ballot; that the Board hereby designates itself to be a set of poll clerks to cast and canvass ballots pursuant to Education Law, §2019-a, subdivision 2b at said special meeting of the Board.
